Luanda - The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria Bragança Sambo, Wednesday consulted the members of the Association of Students of the Private Universities of Angola (AEUPA).
During the meeting, the students, represented by the president of AEUPA, Joaquim Costa, presented three concerns: reduction of tuition fees, closure of illegal higher education institutions and entrepreneurship.
Recently, the Angolan authorities approved a provisional instruction for the adjustment of tuition fees in private and public-private educational institutions, in the current academic year.
The measure, according to the Joint Executive Decree of the ministries of Finance, Education and Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, covers general, primary, secondary and higher education institutions.
According to the instructive published in the Official Gazette on 14 September, pre-school, primary and secondary education institutions are authorised to adjust fees, provisionally, by 15 per cent, in relation to the amount charged in the previous academic year, while in higher education the adjustment is 25 per cent.
In spite of recognising that she has neither the capacity nor the autonomy to alter the decision, the minister, Maria do Rosário Sambo, said she was open to talks, although she said the measure was conducted in a balanced way.
