Luau – At least 100,000 children will be out of the education system in Moxico province during the 2024/2025 school year, due to the lack of more than 1,300 classrooms, ANGOP has learnt.
In recent years, the number of children left out of the education system has varied from 12,000 to 16,000 annually, due to the shortage of classrooms made available by the Provincial Education Office.
According to the director of the provincial education office in Moxico, Valeriano Chimo, the number of children in this condition will exceed the 88,000 barrier recorded in the previous school year (2023/2024).
Speaking on the sidelines of the 1st Provincial Forum to assess the quality of learning in the sector, Chimo reiterated that the province ‘urgently’ needs 1,363 new classrooms, equivalent to 98 T14 schools, to accommodate more children.
He recalled that the province currently has 238 schools, totaling 3,802 classrooms, a number insufficient given the high number of children at school age.
The meeting brought together 250 school managers from the nine municipalities that make up the province of Moxico and discussed issues related to municipal offices annual reports, assessment of the learning system and improvement plans, as well as the new teaching model for 5th and 6th grades.
Teaching and educational activities in general education for the 2024/2025 school year start on September 2.
The 2024/2025 school year in general education comprises 48 school weeks, 41 of which are academic, equivalent to 195 school days and nine national holidays and finishing on July 31. LTY/TC/YD/DAN/AMP
