Gambos – Some 3,147 primary school students in the municipality of Gambos, Huíla province, will benefit from School Meals this school year.
The fact was announced today, Tuesday, to ANGOP, by the head of the Municipal School Inspection Section of Gambos, Alfredo Tupunga, without disclosing the amount made available, he pointed out that the meals are distributed in four schools in the localities of Tchitongotongo, Mardocacu, Tchipeio, Cambuca.
He highlighted that in the municipality, the meals are not yet served with local products as they should be, as it does not have the capacity to produce these types of food, due to the cyclical drought affecting the region.
He explained that he has received products such as cornmeal, beans, rice, fish and others, which allow for the serving of substantial meals once a day, such as rice and beans, funge with beans and fish, motivating students to go to school. According to the person in charge, the number of beneficiaries is still “negligible”, as there is a need to cover 12 thousand students with school meals, given the hunger that affects the region.
At the municipal level, they control 36 primary schools, of which only four are covered by the meals. The municipality of Gambos, with a territorial area, has an estimated population of 197 thousand and 600 inhabitants and is located more than 150 kilometers south of Lubango, the capital of the province of Huíla.
