Saurimo - The Higher Polytechnic Institute of Lunda-Sul (ISPLS), from the Lueji A´Nkonde University, on Thursday launched a literacy program called "kutanga kussoneka" (which in Portuguese means reading and writing).
The project, in partnership with the Provincial Education Office, expects to benefit, in the first phase, 100 adults from the municipality of Saurimo City.
Four classes were created, to be provided by eight literacy teachers for six months.
At the launch act, the deputy director for academic affairs at ISPLS, Fernando Ivulo, said that the project aims to reduce the illiteracy rate in Saurimo.
He informed that the education office will have the task of identifying areas where there are citizens with this need and subsequently the ISPLS will send its facilitators and literacy teachers.
This year, around 1,560 citizens, distributed in 220 classrooms, will benefit from literacy classes in this eastern province, provided by 174 literacy teachers.
