Luanda- Sixteen young Angolans are this month due to take part in intensive leadership and management courses at American universities, under the Mandela Washington Fellowship 2022 and Alumni Enrichment Institute (AEI) scholarship programmes.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship and the Alumni Enrichment Institute are part of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), an effort by the US Administration to invest in the next generation of African leaders.

The selected young Angolans, aged between 16 and 35, will travel to the United States on 7 June to take part in intensive training courses on public administration, entrepreneurship and civic leadership, over a period of a month and a half, as well as having contact with 700 young African leaders to create partnerships.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is a scholarship to support young African leaders to promote growth, prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, consolidate peace and security in Africa. This type of fellowship will take hundreds of young Africans to the United States for six weeks from June to August this year for academic courses and leadership training at local universities, as well as a virtual summit in Washington D.C.
