Sumbe - The president of the Higher Institute of Education Sciences (ISCED) in Cuanza-Sul, Augusto José Fazenda, expressed on Friday, in the city of Sumbe, the institution's interest in teaching the biology course, with a view to filling the need for staff in this area in the education sector.
Speaking to ANGOP, Augusto Fazenda said that ISCED has 12 teachers, an equipped laboratory and requested, back in 2023, the Ministry of Higher Education to open the biology course.
“We are waiting for the evaluation from the Ministry of Higher Education, as we have the conditions created to begin training in this area”, he highlighted.
He spoke about the financial resources raised to equip the chemistry and physics labs and offices, and the training of new teachers.
ISCED counts on the cooperation of Brazilian, Portuguese, Cuban and Mozambican universities to improve the quality of teaching.
“The training of local teachers, training of staff in doctorates, masters, delivery of teaching material and research and investigation work have been the pillar of this cooperation, using Internet resources”, he clarified.
ISCED has five teachers studying abroad for their PHD and two master's degrees in the country.
In the current academic year, the institution is teaching courses in pre-school education, primary education, history, geography, mathematics, chemistry, physics, sociology, Portuguese and English.
It offers master's degrees in pre-school, primary education and educational sciences, in the specialties of mathematics, history, geography and Portuguese language.
PHD courses in educational sciences, primary teaching methodology and pre-school education are being taught.
The institution has 2,613 students and, since its creation in 2001, has trained 2,382 graduates and 118 masters, having produced four books by ISCED teachers.
The institution has 22 classrooms, one for teachers, an auditorium, four laboratories (computer, chemistry, physics and biology), a library, 12 offices, among other facilities.
