Lubango - At least 1, 010 places have been made available by the Higher Education Institute (ISCED) in central Huila for the 2024/2025 academic year for the 13 courses offered, a reduction of 145 compared to the same period last year, ANGOP has learnt.
Speaking to ANGOP on Friday, the school's vice-president for academic affairs, Maria Kuliakita, said the reduction in the number of places is due to the fact that the institution is discontinuing night courses in some municipalities, given the poor performance of some students.
She pointed out that the vacancies are only available for the municipality of Lubango, with 520 for daytime and 480 night courses in Early Childhood Education, Physical Education and Sport, Biology, Physics, Geography, History, Portuguese, French, English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Primary Education and Educational Informatics.
According to the academic, applications have been open since July 29 and will run until August 9. The lists of those admitted will be published on August 13.
In 2008, ISCED-Lubango was affected by the reform of Higher Education promoted by the Angolan government, a procedure that allowed the creation of new autonomous higher education institutes.
As a result of this proposal, the Huila Higher Education Institute has been granted full autonomy by Decree-Law no. 7/09, of May 12, 2009, approved by the Council of Ministers.
Today it has more than 5,000 students from the 1st to the 4th year, spread over 13 degree courses, with emphasis on the integration of the degree in Education in Early Childhood Teaching and Primary Education.BP/MS/TED/AMP
