Soyo - The poor preparation and appreciation of university professors, as well as the absence of a database of scientific magazines in most higher education institutions, contribute to the low scientific production by university professors in the country, the doctor in educational sciences, Chocolate Brás, said Tuesday, in the city of Soyo, Zaire Province.
Speaking to Angop, he argued that a self-respecting university professor should publish at least one scientific article per year.
He recalled that the statutes for the higher education teaching career in the country recommend that a teacher, to renew his or her contract, must produce and publish scientific articles, as this constitutes one of the criteria for evaluating the teachers´ performance.
The also researcher professor noted that the country has a deficiency in university preparation, especially in teaching the subject of Scientific Research Methodology (MIC) and in the preparation of final coursework at undergraduate level.
“Most university institutions do not teach research”, highlighted the academic, for whom many of these educational establishments prefer to carry out continuous training programs in scientific research.
To him, other causes have to do with the absence of journals in most higher education institutions, considering this a factor that makes it impossible for their professors to publish any scientific articles internally.
He added that the search for financial stability forces university professors to work in more than one institution, which also makes it difficult for them to undertake research, production and scientific publication work, due to lack of availability.
Despite the difficulties, Chocolate Brás challenged his colleagues in the country to draw up annual activity plans that include participation in conferences, colloquiums, roundtables at national or international level, as well as the production and publication of scientific products.
“A university professor must leave his comfort zone, his locality or region and be known nationally and internationally, due to the results of his research and scientific publications”, he highlighted.
Chocolate Brás is a research professor at the Higher Polytechnic Institute Sol Nascente (ISPSN) in the central Huambo Province. He was the special guest to deliver a wisdom prayer, at the opening ceremony of the 2024/25 academic year at the Higher University Institute Nimi ya Lukeny (INSPUNYL) in Soyo.
