Huambo – At least 943,962 pupils will attend the 2024/2025 school year in Huambo province, 33,000 more than in the previous year, the director of the local education office Mário Rodrigues has said.
Speaking at the end of the 6th ordinary session of the Huambo provincial government, the official said the sector currently counts on 14,959 teachers, as it will be a challenging school year, with new strategies to be implemented this year.
Mario Rodrigues, who did not disclose numbers, said there are schools to be inaugurated in the next few days, to reinforce and better accommodate the students.
He added that the particularity of the new school year will be in the 5th and 6th grades, where a new curricular perspective will be applied on an experimental basis, reducing and grouping some subjects, with the exception of Portuguese, Mathematics, Science, National Languages, English and French.
He added that the other goal is linked to the literacy program, which plans to reach more than 27,000 citizens in the different components, counting on volunteers, from higher education students, churches, associations and political parties with parliamentary seats.
Mário Rodrigues said that various training courses for teachers and school administrators will take place to improve their mastery of classroom subjects and the quality of teaching/learning and responsible management in the planning of pedagogical and administrative practices.
He stressed that, for the 2024/2025 school year, the national exams will be for all twelfth grades, namely high schools and other different specialties to assess the quality of the work carried out by the sector in the region.ZZN/JSV/ALH/TED/AMP
