Luanda - The Trade Unions Federation of Employees of Education, Culture, Sports and Media of Angola (FSTECDCSA) announced Monday the suspension of the general strike of the education teachers scheduled for December 5.
The suspension of the strike follows the unfolding of negotiations and the signing of a memorandum with the Ministry of Education (MED), which accepted the points contained in the 2021 complaint book.
According to the head of FSTECDCSA, Adriano dos Santos, the Education Ministry worked on some key-points, such as the issue related to the Labour Income Tax (IRT) and the isolation subsidy for teachers in remote areas.
It was also agreed to motorize the promotion process for general education teachers, taking into account the acquired qualifications and length of service.
"Due to these advances, we decided to suspend the strike called for December 5, 2022," Santos said.
Adriano dos Santos underlined that the deadline for the fulfillment of the demands is until the end of the first quarter of 2023 and in case they are not met by this period of time, a new strike will be called.
The minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, on her turn, said the meeting was fruitful, adding that the work will continue until the presented complaints are solved.
Luísa Grilo said that the IRT situation is a transversal issue that covers other sectors, and that it will deserve the Education Ministry's attention.
The minister reminded that the Education Ministry will also analyze the issue related to the payment of management and leadership subsidy through an increase of the percentage currently paid.
As regards the strike called by the Teachers Union, the minister said the government is open to dialogue, which may take place in the coming days.
