Luanda - The members of the Sixth Committee of the National Assembly on Monday in Luanda recommended greater dissemination of science and technology projects aimed at improving the quality of higher education in Angola and, consequently, ensuring the country's socio-economic growth.
The parliamentarian spoke to the press at the end of a hearing with the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Maria do Rosário Bragança, as part of the supervisory role of the Members of the Parliament and which served to address the projects in this sector.
According to MP Narciso Benedito, the recommendation results from the investment made by the Executive in Angolan higher education, specifically in the science and scientific research component.
'From an evaluation point of view, we, the deputies, did it and we think that the clarification that the Minister of Higher Education gave allows us to continue to do our part so that education can contribute to the development of the country', he explained
Data from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology indicate that, in 2023, 40 million kwanzas were directly applied to scientific research projects for universities, around 30 million for institutes and 29 million for schools, Throughout the national territory.
On the occasion, the head of the sector, Maria do Rosário Bragança, said that to improve scientific quality, there must be greater investment in science.
She highlighted that despite the few resources, within the scope of the scientific research project, more proposals are needed, taking into account that only 199 proposals were sent to the ministry, on a scale of more than one hundred higher education institutions in the country.
She made it known that they continue to work to resolve complaints linked to the harmonization of fees and support for students, which could happen within months.
Among other points, she also discussed scholarships, both internal and external.
The sixth committee of the National Assembly oversees issues of Health, Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology.
However, in addition to Maria do Rosário Bragança, other public office holders also passed the scrutiny of parliamentarians.
