Lubango – Caluquembe municipality leads the statistics in three education subsystems, primary, cycle I and II, with the highest number of enrollments recorded in the Huila government’s main indicators for enrollment to education and schooling.
The National Development Plan - PDN, in its 3rd Axis and 12th Program linked to the Expansion and Modernization of the Education System, has the primary objective of promoting mass access to all levels of education by increasing the number of public and private educational establishments to improve schooling rates at all levels of education.
Figures show that 11.9 percent of the population in the province joined the school system for the first time in the 2023/2024 school year.
In terms of Huíla's indicators, Caluquembe municipality leads with 46.2 percent of its population, while Lubango is in last place with seven percent.
The municipalities of Chipindo and Jamba, with 39.3 percent and 33 percent respectively, complete the top three places.
As for the net rate of admission to pre-school education, data show that on average, 7.9 percent of the population of the recommended age in Huíla province entered. The municipality of Gambos, with 4.6%, has the lowest rate, which shows that children are starting late, unlike Caluquembe, which has the highest rate of 29.2.
For the primary education subsystem, the gross admission rate represents the average of all pupils enrolled in grade 1, with data showing that on average 15% of the population at provincial level had access. The municipality of Quilengues, with 7%, admitted the lowest number and Caluquembe, with 78, the highest.
In the 2022/2023 school year, 495,480 of the 798,323 pupils enrolled in different educational institutions in Huíla succeed, corresponding to a 62 percent success rate, while 160,664 failed and 142,179 dropped out, affecting the graph by 20 and 18 percent respectively. MS/TED/AMP
