Luena – A training program for professionals’ physical education, which aims to boost the practice of sports and physical exercise in communities, called “Plano Desporto”, will be implemented in the country, in the coming days, by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MINJUD).
The program will encourage people to practice physical exercise to rule out or avoid preventable diseases, as announced, on Wednesday, in Luena, by MINJUD representative, Fernanda Menezes, on the sidelines of the IV national meeting of Angola's Physical Education Teachers (APETA).
Fernanda Menezes, also a renowned physical education teacher, responded to a challenge launched by the APETA, which advocates the adoption of a lifestyle based on physical activities by the population to help prevent diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
Speaking at the end of the IV national meeting of Physical Education Teachers of Angola, which took place over three days in Luena, the head of this professional association, Domingos Torres, said that a sedentary lifestyle represents a "great danger" to human health worldwide, as it increases body weight and raises cholesterol.
In his view, it is necessary for the Ministry of Youth and Sports to improve physical activity programs for society, given the fact that technologies occupy more people in homes, means of transport and other places of social and economic comfort, robbing them of normal physical activities.
He suggested that the Ministry of Education improve the physical education discipline programs, with a view to achieving the desired quality in teaching.
The meeting lasted three days and addressed "Quality physical education", "Physical education teaching didactics", "The role of the physical education professional in society", "Physical activity and entrepreneurship" and "Education physics for everyone".
The event took place under the motto "For the improvement of competence, rigor and excellence in physical education classes", and was attended by more than 90 physical education teachers from 12 of the country's 18 provinces.
The APEFA has existed since 2022 and has at least 200 members. LTY//YD/CF/DOJ
