Malanje – At least 8. 9 million students are expected to attend the academic year 2023/24 in the general and university subsystems in the country, the minister of State for Social Affairs Dalva Ringote said on Friday.
The official released the statistics at the national opening ceremony of the academic year held in northern Malanje province.
The leader said of this number, 1. 5 million are children entering the education system for the first time, accounted for 17.5 percent.
The official highlighted that there are 103,216 classrooms, an increase of 2,955 compared to the last academic year.
She highlighted the expansion of the school network and the granting of scholarships as being at the center of attention.
When it comes to schools, she said, 13,000 schools are available, over 353 new facilities compared to last year.
Public tender
On the other hand, Dalva Ringote announced that a public tender will be launched this year to hire 11, 787 new teachers.
She added that the Executive's perspectives still include attention to special education and inclusive education for disabled children in school sports.
In this field, the official said that the intention is to develop the regular practice of sports in schools, which will involve the adoption of models more suited to the current reality of the sector.
Literacy and education of young adults to reduce the illiteracy rate is another commitment, according to the minister of State, especially among adults and communities.
