Lucapa - The governor of the eastern Lunda-Norte province, Filomena Miza, on Friday said the local government will strengthen policies that secure the right of access to free public education for people with special needs.
Speaking at the opening of the 2024/25 school year, the governor said the government will create conditions for public schools to be inclusive, preventing those of school age with disabilities from being excluded.
“The number of children with special educational needs has increased significantly, which is a concern, requiring us to adopt policies that allow greater inclusion of this group in free public education,” she said.
Filomena Miza said the government has sought to improve the qualification and appreciation of the teachers, whose main actions include hiring more teachers and better qualified administrative agents, as well as the granting of isolation allowances and career promotions.
According to the governor, the government has paid special attention to continuous training programs so that teachers can keep updated with new educational methodologies and techniques.
Filomena Miza added that for the current school year, Lunda-Norte has a teaching staff of 5,929 education agents, of which 5,501 are teachers, as well as 208 schools for 223,273 pupils enrolled.
The official pointed out that compared to the 2023/24 school year, there was an increase of 59,448 students, adding that the province needs 96 new schools to meet the demand. HD/TED/AMP
