Luanda - Angola has around 164 schools associated to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), said this Thursday, in Luanda, the permanent secretary of the organization's National Commission, Alexandre Costa.
The province of Luanda leads the list of associated schools, with 58 registered.
Speaking at the national meeting on “Angolan museums and museum routes”, the secretary recalled that Angola joined the UNESCO Associated Schools Program in 1998.
He stated that, at the beginning, four schools were registered, namely Alda Lara, Óscar Ribas, Colégio nº 1600 and Escola nº 3024.
Alexandre Costa also highlighted the benefits of associated schools as sharing information, experiences, good practices, projects and ideas around a common objective, the culture of peace.
He mentioned that associated schools have the advantage of international certification for their members, participation in international competitions promoted by UNESCO and similar institutions, as well as receiving support material.
He recalled that it is everyone's responsibility to prepare generations for life in a more peaceful, educational, resilient and sustainable society.
The meeting, lasting one day, brought together those responsible for the country's museums, among other guests.
