Huambo - At least 40 veterinarians have been trained every year at the Veterinary Faculty in central Huambo province, the only one of its kind in the country, the dean of the institution, Joaquim Morais told ANGOP on Friday.
Speaking on the World Veterinary Day marked on October 4, the academic said the institution's mission is to ensure animal protection, produce and disseminate scientific knowledge of interest to Angola's development in the veterinary sciences and aquaculture.
Joaquim Morais said the 50 finalists in veterinary medical sciences, who completed training in the 2023/2024 academic year, have already been distributed in various farms with the highest livestock production in the country, where they are promoting new forms of animal development and repopulation.
The dean stressed that the public/private sector, especially those linked to agricultural and livestock production, are the biggest employers of veterinary doctors to work with plausible methods around animal health and greater commitment to the animals’ multiplication process.
He pointed out that Cuanza-Sul, Luanda and Zaire provinces are the regions of the country where there is the greatest demand for veterinary doctors, taking into account the significant areas of livestock production they have.
Joaquim Morais said that for the academic year 2024/2025 the institution has enrolled 243 students in the veterinary medical sciences and aquaculture.
