Talatona - Angola and Zimbabwe began Monday in Luanda to lay foundation for the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement in the areas of teacher and student mobility, scientific research and evaluation of the quality of higher education.
This was during a bilateral meeting of representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Angola and the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology of Zimbabwe.
The parties discussed aspects related to the mutual knowledge of the two subsystems.
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the Angolan Secretary of State for Higher Education, Eugénio da Silva, said that the bases had been laid for the future bilateral and mutually advantageous cooperation in the areas of agriculture, scientific research, mines and other areas.
He said the two higher education subsystems have common characteristics and similar goals that are limited to promoting, reinforcing teaching, training highly qualified professionals, to increase scientific research and establish partnerships, also in the areas of entrepreneurship in higher education.
The official said the agreement allows the Angolan teachers to spend a period in Zimbabwe to develop experience, teach and develop research projects.
In turn, the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology of Zimbabwe, Fanuel Tagwira, who was speaking after the meeting, reiterated the availability of universities in Zimbabwe to receive and send students and professors to the aforementioned partnership.
He said that the education system in Zimbabwe is going through a period of modernisation from 3.0 to 5.0, where research, teaching, innovation and industry are being emphasised, branches that will be part of the desired exchange.
According to him, Angola's experience in the oil sector will be an asset to his country's higher education system.
The delegation will hold meetings with institutions of higher education and some of secondary education. MAG/NIC
