Huambo - The secretary of the National Students Union of Angola (UNE-A) in Huambo, Rafael Capapelo, on Saturday called for the government's continued improvement of teaching and learning conditions by building more schools in the communities.
He called on the Huambo provincial government to invest more in increasing school infrastructure to combat the phenomenon of children out of the education/learning system and put an end to the existence of others who are still being taught under trees.
He also called for school security to be strengthened and for the social card for free access to public transport to be given to children up to the age of 17, as opposed to the 15 years provided by the current Gira Mais transport for student program.
Rafael Capapelo underlined that access to the social bus tickets for children between the ages of six and 17 will help many secondary school pupils, especially those from poor families to continue their studies without major constraints.
The education sector in Huambo province enrolled 842,734 pupils in the current school year, 21,919 more than the previous year (2022/2023) at all levels.
