Mbanza Kongo – Angolan Border Guard Police (PGFA) seized 3,000 liters of diesel in the province of Zaire, in the last three days for attempted smuggling into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The seizure took place at the different border checkpoints along the common border between Angola end DRC in Zaire province, according to the spokesperson for the provincial command of the national police, Luís José Bernardo, who spoke to ANGOP on Thursday, in Mbanza Kongo.
It should be noted that, every week, huge quantities of gasoline and diesel are seized by police authorities in the province of Zaire, due to attempted smuggling to the neighboring country, where derivatives are sold at speculative prices.
Smugglers use clandestine routes, also known as “fiote routes”, to cross the border with fuel packed in plastic drums of 25 and 200 liters and transported on three-wheel motorbikes, mainly.
According to the spokesperson for the Provincial Command of the National Police, considerable quantities of basic food products that were also destined for the DRC were also seized during the period in question, due to attempted tax evasion.
He explained that all the seized assets were handed over to the General Tax Administration (AGT) bodies in the region.
Four municipalities, of the six attached to the province of Zaire, share a border with the DRC, covering a length of 310 kilometers, namely Mbanza Kongo, Soyo, Cuimba and Nóqui. DA/PMV/AC/DOJ
