Huambo - Economist António Feliciano Braça said on Tuesday that US President Joe Biden's visit represents, in a way, the milestone in the reformulation of political and, above all, economic relations that will open up new investment prospects for Angola.

The US president started a three-day state visit to Angola on Monday, which includes a meeting with President João Lourenço and a trip to Benguela province, home to the Lobito Corridor, which includes the regions of Huambo, Bié and Moxico.

Speaking to ANGOP about the US president's visit, the economist said that Joe Biden's presence will strengthen bilateral relations with Angola and Africa in general, in terms of political and particularly economic exchanges.

He pointed out that Angola is an influential nation in the world in political and economic terms and, above all, in industrial terms, with influence and representation in almost every part of the world, with President Joe Biden as the high point of the economic management of the US state.

António Feliciano Braça recalled that in the economic circuit there are entities such as the state, companies, banks and families, but among them there is the most important, which is the outside world, hence no country lives alone, including the United States of America, which needs to relate to others in order to maintain its hegemony.

Bilateral relations

Angola and the US are strategic partners, with political-diplomatic and cooperation relations that have seen a marked increase over the last 30 years, leading to the signing of various legal instruments in the social, commercial and business fields.

In 2023, trade between the US and Angola totaled approximately 1.77 billion dollars, making Angola Washington's fourth largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa.

Angola and the United States established formal diplomatic relations in 1993. ALH/TED/AMP
