Lubango – The minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, reported in Huíla that, since 2022, more than 3,000 kilometers of high voltage electricity cables and water pipes were vandalized across the country, causing losses estimated at more than US$15 million.
The concern was expressed on Tuesday by the minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, on the 2nd day of a working visit to the province of Huíla, where he observed the progress of works in the sector he manages.
He highlighted that the losses caused by the actions of the criminals created damage to the network, transmission network reducers and transformer poles (PT's).
“Recently we noticed the vandalization of the line between Soyo and Capari, where 180 towers were damaged and their replacement is being carried out gradually, as resources are mobilized, as the damage is extensive for the State”, he said.
Regarding the challenges posed in the water sector, João Borges stated that the priority is to improve the quantity and quality of water in Luanda, given the population density.
He highlighted that, still considering the actions to supply drinking water, the supply system in Ndalatando, a city that had no water since last January, as well as that of Saurimo, were completed.
