Cuito - Exhibitors of the 5th edition of the Bié Potato and Corn Fair in Cuito city, raised a total 1.4 billion Kwanzas, contrary to 600 million Kwanzas levied in last year's edition, which had 300 exhibitors.
According to the deputy governor for political, social and economic affairs, Alcida de Jesus Camateli Sandumbo, this year's edition brought together 445 exhibitors from the provinces of Bié, Huambo, Luanda, Moxico, Benguela, Cuando Cubango, Zaire, Namibe and Huila.
He said that over the five days, the companies sold 399.5 tons of corn, 66.76 tons of potatoes, 116.27 tons of beans, 44 tons of wheat and 69.88 tons of wheat.
The event awarded prizes in 11 different categories, with the municipality of Camacupa regaining the title of winner of the fair, standing out in three categories, namely Best Exhibitor, Best Municipal Administration and the grand prize.
Winners received as prizes electric submersible pumps, motor pumps, motor seeders, threshers, sprayers and other agricultural equipment to boost production in their respective municipalities.
Closing the event, the governor of Bié, Celeste Adolfo, highlighted everyone's commitment to the success of the fair, adding that this year's edition has shown that it is possible for the province to overcome all the adversities imposed by the country's current economic context. LB/BAN/MS/TED/AMP
