Talatona - More than 200,000 applicants applied for field agents of the General Census of Population and Housing 2024, during the recruitment process that took place from 22 to 27 May, the director of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), José Calengi, said on Tuesday in Luanda.
The 2024 population and housing census will begin on July 19 of this year and plans to redeploy 79,423 field agents for data collection., of which 67,131 are enumerators and 12,292 supervisors.
José Calengi, who was speaking on the sidelines of the Meeting of the SADC Statistical Committee, which takes place from 28 to 30 May, said that from the 29th the selection process of enumerators, supervisors, administrative assistants and technicians will be carried out.
The official said that the difficulties pointed out by some candidates, in terms of access to the site, were overcome from the first day, so the desired number was reached.
Regarding the SADC meeting, he pointed out that policy instruments for regional statistics, draft data collection sources and methods, among others, will be analysed.
The population and housing census will be carried out throughout the national territory and will cover national and foreign citizens residing or temporarily absent, as well as accommodation units.
In turn, the Secretary of State for Public Investment, Ivan Marques dos Santos, said that Angola has made significant strides in terms of the production of official statistics, highlighting the survey of expenditure, revenues and employment, the census of companies and establishments, as well as the Survey of Multiple Indicators and health, among others.
He stressed that the country, through the National Statistical System, is committed to the implementation of SADC guidelines to make the region's statistics more robust.
He said that the signing of the SADC Statistics Protocol, which is a legal document, allows for the strengthening of development and innovation in the field of statistics in the Region.
On the occasion, the Regional Executive Secretary for SADC Integration, Angele Makombo N'tumba, highlighted that the SADC Indicative Strategic Plan for Regional Development (RISDP 2020-30) sets out the strategic priorities and areas of intervention for its current implementation period.
With regard to statistics, the strategy envisages strengthening capacity across the value chain of regional statistical system data as a strategic focus area in order to achieve the result of an improved data collection infrastructure and essential systems for the production and use of regional statistics.
'It is up to us to maximize the impact of data on the development of our region, which implies internalizing and paying greater attention to each component of the entire 'data value chain',' he concluded.
For three days, in the different sessions, National Accounts statistics, poverty statistics, price statistics, agriculture statistics, labour statistics, among other topics, will also be analyzed.
