Luena - A team from the “Diversifica Mais” Project Implementation Unit (UIP) for the Acceleration of Economic Diversification and Job Creation will, this Wednesday, assess the main technical infrastructure needs in the border area of Luau, Province from Moxico.

This diagnosis at that border point, with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), falls within the activity plan scheduled for 2024, of the aforementioned project, according to a press release from the Ministry of Planning to which ANGOP had access.

The main objective is to increase private investment and the growth of Micro, Small and Medium size Enterprises (MSMEs) in non-oil sectors, with a focus on the Lobito corridor (provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Bié and Moxico), according to the document.

The “Diversifica Mais” (Diversify More) Project, he adds, aims to create an environment conducive to trade, investment and financing, which includes a number of interventions in previously identified border areas, such as the Luvo border, in the province of Zaire, and the Border of Luau, in Moxico.

In this way, the UIP team will carry out a needs assessment, evaluate the current state of infrastructures and map the areas that require more urgent support in terms of services and new technological infrastructures.

The focus of the project is to support actions that help facilitate trade, as well as the creation of new businesses and the consequent creation of jobs, paying special attention to mitigating possible social and environmental risks when implementing initiatives to be financed by the Diversifica Mais Project.

“The visit by the Diversifica Mais UIP team will only carry out diagnostic work, which is already progressing at a good pace, given that in the first week of this month, it successfully carried out the same work on the border of Luvo, Zaire”, it reads in the press release.

Luau is a municipality that is more than 360 kilometers east of the city of Luena, capital of the province of Moxico.

With 3,839 km² and more than 110,000 inhabitants, it is bordered to the east by the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the Dilolo region, being the last point on the Benguela Railway, in Angolan territory.

The region also has an International Airport "General Sapilinha Sambalanga" in addition to being connected by the National Road - 250, whose rehabilitation works are ongoing.
