Luanda - Turkey is working to reach 1 billion US dollars per year in businesses with Angola to surpass the current 250 million per year, the Turkish ambassador to Angola, Alp Ay, has told ANGOP.
The diplomat, who was assessing the cooperation relations between the two countries, said the recent high-level reciprocal visits have implemented a new dynamic between Turkish and Angolan companies.
The President of Angola, João Lourenço, paid a state visit to Turkey in July 2021, at the invitation of his counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which was reciprocated three months later.
"This year, I'm sure there will be already an increase in business volume", Alp Ay emphasized, adding that the current figure is far bellow what the parties want.
According to the diplomat, the start of direct flights between the two countries, in October 2021, allows greater flow of tourists from both sides.
The Turkish diplomat's statements are excerpts of an interview the ambassador granted to ANGOP, which will be published soon, in which the ambassador addresses international and African issues, with emphasis on the current crises, cooperation relations with Angola, among other relevant subjects.
The diplomatic relations between Angola and Turkey date back to 1980 and are supported by cooperation agreements in the sectors of Fisheries, Education, Science and Technology, Oil and Gas, Industry and Agriculture.
Turkey exports several goods to Angola such as wheat, machinery, household appliances, hospital and health supplies, among others, while Angola exports wood, scrap iron and aluminum, among others.
