Luanda - The last long weekend, from 14 to 17 September, saw 12,615 domestic and foreign tourists travel between the provinces of Benguela, Namibe, Kwanza-Sul and Malanje.

Benguela, with a hotel occupancy rate of 99.9 %, welcomed 3,100 tourists, Namibe (99.8 %) 4,309, Kwanza-Sul (93.6 %) 1,653 and Malanje (94.3 %) welcomed 3,555 visitors during such period, on the occasion of National Heroes' Day, according to data published Friday on the Government Portal.

This occupancy rate in hotels and similar establishments reflects the upward trend that the tourism sector has seen in recent times, with growth of 9.2 per cent from January to July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

Figures analysed by the Economic Team show that hotels welcomed 847,971 visitors in the first seven months of this year, while guesthouses and other establishments registered 334,605 guests.

During this period, the country recorded 83,587 tourist arrivals, compared to 75,675 in the same period in 2023.

Last July, the number of occupied beds increased by 40.0%, in line with the growth in the number of tourist arrivals, which stood at 13.8%.

This dynamic led to the creation of 2,494 jobs, compared to 1,535 in the same period last year. VC/DAN/DOJ
