Lobito - The mining terminal of the Port of Lobito received Friday, for the first time, a ship with 40,500 tons of granulated sulfur, ANGOP learned.
According to the director of the terminal, Fernando Antunes, this is a cargo in transit, transported by the ship “Lindsaylou”, flagged by the Marshall Islands and coming from Qatar, bound for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
'We estimate an eight-day unloading operation. We have a certain expectation, because it can go in the best or worst way', considered the director.
For the unloading operation, according to Fernando Antunes, about 80 operators are mobilized to work in three shifts a day.
Asked about the prospect of receiving other shipments, he said that possibly by the end of this year there will be a second sulfur stopover.
'We are currently creating the conditions for the maneuvers, already thinking about copper shipments from the DRC,' he said.
This is the first unloading of this chemical element since the Lobito Atlantic Railway consortium signed the concession contract for rail and logistics support services for the Lobito Corridor, on July 4, 2023.
The mineral terminal was built as part of the expansion project of the Port of Lobito, which began in March 2008 and was completed in 2012.
It has a 310-meter quay, a total area of about 200 thousand square meters and has the capacity to receive ships of 50 thousand DWT (gross tonnage). TC/CRB/DOJ
