Soyo – The Angola airlines TAAG resumed Friday flights to Soyo City, northern Zaire Province, after the Luanda and Soyo commercial route had been interrupted in 2020 due to the restrictive measures imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
TAAG will now fly to Soyo three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) with the DASH8Q400 aircraft, with capacity for 74 passengers, 64 in economy class and 10 in executive class.
The Friday flight took just eight passengers to Soyo, a number that the TAAG's flight schedules chief in the region, Victor Rufino, considered very low due to the alleged lack of knowledge on the resumption of the flights by many passengers.
“Four passengers travelled from Soyo to Luanda”, he added, stating that it may increase in the coming days depending on the company’s publicity.
The commander of the aircraft, Mário Lopes, said that the trip from Luanda to Soyo was calm, adding that he believes that the number of passengers will increase in the next few days.
"It is normal that on the first day there is a reduced number of passengers, taking into account the time that TAAG had stopped flying to Soyo," the aircraft commander said.
João Samuel, a passenger, considered the trip from Luanda to Soyo comfortable adding that he hopes that TAAG does not interrupt commercial connections between the two cities.
Adelina Martins, another passenger, praised the initiative of the national airliner in resuming flights to Soyo praising the service provided during the 50 minutes flight.
The ticket from Luanda to Soyo and vice-versa costs 32,000 kwanzas.
