Luanda - A delegation of South African businesspersosns, who are in Angola to participate in the Luanda International Fair (FILDA), have manifested interest in investing in the country.
The delegation was received Wednesday at the premises of the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), for clarifications on the business environment, legal framework and opportunities and advantages of investing in Angola.
The visit is an initiative of the AIPEX as part of its strategy to promote business between Angola and South Africa.
The South African business team is composed of 23 businessmen from different fields, particularly from the technology sector, transports, restaurants, agriculture and agribusiness.
The head of the business delegation, Tatiana dos Santos, manager of South Africa’s Investment Promotion Agency "Wesgro", said the primary objective is to participate in the FILDA2022 and seek partnerships with Angolan entrepreneurs interested in developing business both in Angola and in South Africa.
According to Tatiana dos Santos, the South African entrepreneurs have not defined the amount to invest in Angola, although they have shown interest in developing business in the textile, engineering, agriculture and agribusiness sectors.
Malcolm Green, manager of Winepreneur, said the meeting with AIPEX was fruitful adding that he believes this may result in concrete business deals with Angolan businesspersons in the near future.
The Economic and Business Counselor of the South African Embassy in Angola, Meshack Mathye, on his turn, said the meeting with Aipex was very positive since it addressed challenges and shared solutions to improve the trade balance between the two countries.
He said that the South African delegation had an excellent opportunity to make contacts with the Angolan authorities and entrepreurs, in order to develop future partnerships. Diplomat.
The diplomat underscored the need for Angola and South Africa to increase the volume of businesses, hailing the importance of meetings of this kind to aid boost exports and imports in both directions.
António Henriques da Silva, AIPEX’s CEO, who presented the business opportunities and advantages of investing in Angola, said the country possesses multiple investment opportunities.
According to the AIPEX CEO, since 2018 the agency registered five investment projects from South Africa valued at more than 18 million US dollars.
These investment projects have been channeled to trade sector (1), manufacturing (1), agriculture (1) and service provision with 2 projects, implemented in Luanda (three), Cuanza Norte and Malanje, with one, respectively.
Henriques da Silva, pointed out that Angola is a country with economic potential, with a lot of natural wealth, such as forest, mineral, water and a relevant consumer market.
Angola enjoys a geostrategic position and plays an important role to access regional markets to the north, east and south of the country, Henriques da Silva stressed.
