Huambo - Three hundred 22 illegal slot machines were destroyed on Wednesday by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Huambo province, ANGOP learned from an official source.

The illegal gaming machines were collected in the neighborhoods of Cambiote, Cachindombe, São João, São José and São Pedro, both on the outskirts of the city of Huambo.

The operation, coordinated by the SIC and the Department of Investigation of Criminal Offenses of the National Police, in partnership with the Gaming Supervision Institute, took place last July, resulted in the arrest of two Chinese citizens and an Angolan, involved in the promotion of these practices.

Speaking to the press, the spokesman for SIC-Huambo, sub-inspector of criminal investigation Abel Kangombe, informed that those involved collected metal coins, through these machines, without the due payment of taxes.

He explained that the retention of the currency causes serious imbalances in the financial system and increases the economic asymmetries of any country.

Without presenting data, he said that the implementation of daily bets resulted in many children dropping out of schools and encouraged children to steal coins from parents and guardians, especially in the municipality of Huambo.

He appealed to the culture of denunciation of the houses where these illicit games are practiced.

Operations to prevent and combat illicit gambling will continue in the near future, to avoid the retention of coins in these gaming houses. LT/JSV/ALH/DOJ
