Lubango – The Minister of State for economic coordination, José de Lima Massano, stated on Wednesday, in Lubango (province of Huíla), that agrobusiness has a fundamental role in the future of the national economy and should be the “engine” of its diversification, inclusive and sustainable development.

Currently, according to the minister, the agricultural sector contributes 80% of food production in the country, a segment in which 3.1 million families are engaged.

Speaking at the opening of the 31st Expo-Huíla under the motto: “Agro, Path to the future”, José de Lima Massano considered the intensive development of this segment, a guarantee of food security, employment, income and rural growth.

He reaffirmed the Executive's commitment to supporting industry and agriculture, to guarantee the development of these sectors and challenged Huíla and its entrepreneurs to lead the manufacture of equipment to support agriculture, taking advantage of existing manufacturing structures, to production of shovels, picks, rakes and various hand tools which, despite existing capacity, are still imported, in an average volume of US$550k.

He mentioned that the opportunities are numerous and are within reach, so the Executive will continue the path of improving the business environment and creating economic and financial incentives so that more national and foreign private investment is made.

About Expo Huíla, part of the 122nd edition of the Festas da Nossa Senhora do Monte, he considered that it is an event that aims to promote a “strong” interaction between producers, buyers and suppliers, to foster knowledge and embrace new opportunities.

The president of the Huíla Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Association, Paulo Gaspar, stated that the commercial event is of high importance, as it serves as an exchange of experience in all the products on display. JT/MS/CF/DOJ
