Cabinda - The Secretary of Mineral Resources, Jânio Correia Victor, defended on Friday in Buco-Zau, Cabinda, the need to create mechanisms to combat illegal gold mining in the country.

The official acknowledged that illegal gold mining has caused environmental problems, namely water pollution and damage to forest resources, and recommended that the board of directors of mining companies work with municipal governments, traditional authorities, defense and security agencies to discourage such practices.

Jânio Correia Victor expressed his satisfaction with the information he received regarding the functioning of the two mining operations installed in the municipalities of Belize and Buco-Zau.

It should be noted that the mining operations installed in the community of Buco-Zau have been producing for two years.

The manager of the Buco-Zau and Lufu Mining Companies, Tubias Jundji, reported that the plant produces two to five kilos of gold per month, while the production of gold varies depending on the grades found at the time of exploration in the basins of the Luegi, Luali and Lutucuto rivers.

He praised the results obtained by the gold mining companies in the region, since this is a phase of studies on the secondary reserves existing in the province.

With an estimated investment of 18 million US dollars, the project has 180 workers, most of them young people living in the region.
