Huambo - The central Huambo province has a great mining potential which can significantly contribute to the economic increase of the country, said Monday the State Secretary for Mineral Resources, Jânio Correia Victor.
Jânio Victor was speaking on the sidelines of the presentation ceremony of the results of the National Geology Plan (PLANAGEO), in the South Zone of Angola.
Among the resources, the official referred to the gold, ornamental rocks and the 23 billion tons reserve of crude ore called rare earths.
Addressing the mining operators and the local government officials, headed by Governor Lotti Nolika, the Secretary of State said that this mineral wealth, if well-directed, can raise the economic capacity of the province and the country, in general.
Speaking of PLANAGEO, Jânio Correia Victor announced plans to re-launch, boost and increase the tax contribution of the Mineral Resources of the sub-sector in the country aimed at improving knowledge of the geology and the potential of mineral resources in the national territory.
Among the goals, the official mentioned the restructuring, training and equipping the Geology Institute of Angola (IGEO) and the assurance of the sustainable development of the country.
He recalled that the National Geology Planning, under implementation since 2014 and which has not been completed in time on financial grounds (2018), is estimated at USD 405 million, with an execution level of 66.19 per cent.
During his 24 hours stay in Huambo province, the State Secretary will find out the operative situation of the sector in the province with consultation to the mining operators.
