Luanda – Luanda Refinery is currently producing 1.5 million litres of petrol per day against the previous 395,000 litres output daily, the facility's coordinator, João Mayer said Tuesday.
With this capacity a 45 percent increase has been recorded in the domestic market supply and a reduction of about 15 percent fuel imports to the country.
The refinery coordinator, who was speaking during an assessment visit by managers of the State oil company Sonangol, said the refinery has already reached its projected full production capacity and that it is currently self-sufficient in terms of oil by-products.
João Mayer added that there has been a 30 percent increase in LPG production, while the jet fuel - JET-A1 output increased to 100 percent.
The New Luanda Refinery is part of the National Development Plan (PND 2018-2022) for the oil sector that aims to ensure self-sufficiency in refined products through the construction of new refineries and expansion of the one located in Luanda.
The Development Plan has allowed Angola to save more than 300 million US dollars per year in recent times.
When President João Lourenço re-inaugurated the new petrol production facility of the Luanda refinery on July 7, it was producing only 395,000 litres of fuel daily.
Owned by Sonangol the refinery is currently managed 100 percent by national staff.
With 272 permanent employees, the company is still training more young Angolans to contribute to the creation of a true refining and petrochemical industry on national territory.
The refeneries of Soyo, Cabinda and Lobito are also under construction.
