Luanda - Angolan head of State João Lourenço authorised USD 275. 4 million for the rehabilitation of the Mavinga/ Rivungo section in south-east Cuando Cubango province, in an extension of 212 kilometres.
The amount will be earmarked for the construction of various projects, including road, six bridges.
Located on National Road (EN) nº 280/EN 180, the rehabilitation of this section aims to boost the socio-economic expansion of the South and East region and commercial exchanges between the population of Cuando Cubango (Angola) and the neighbouring Zambia.
The infrastructure will also contribute to increasing agricultural and livestock production, increasing corn and rice production, as well as providing access to schools, health centers and other State Local Administration services, in addition to boosting the development of the mining and timber industry.
The Presidential Order No. 94/23 of May 9, also referred to the provision of 3.4 billion kwanzas for the supervision of works on that National Road.
Peasants in Rivungo and Mavinga, the major producing areas of cereal in Cuando Cubango, have been finding it difficult to sell agricultural production, due to the poor state of the road that connects the two municipalities.
