Uíge - The Kenyan ambassador to Angola, Joyce Khasimwa M-Maits on Monday expressed her country's intention to explore the potential of the northern Uíge province in the areas of agriculture, tourism, education and technology.
The diplomat expressed this intention after a meeting with the Uige governor of Uíge, José Carvalho da Rocha, as part of her two-day visit to that region.
“We had a good meeting with the governor of Uíge and we realized that the province of Uíge has a climate similar to various regions of Kenya,” the diplomat said.
The ambassador recalled that in October last year Angola and Kenya signed 11 cooperation agreements in various areas, hence the visit to Uíge province to analyze the areas of cooperation and strengthen the agreements.
The diplomat also said that during the meeting with the governor it was agreed that local and Kenyan businesspeople could travel to the two countries to share information.
After arriving in Uíge province, Joyce Khasimua visited the Mussange farm aquaculture project in Negage municipality, with capacity to produce 31 million fingerlings and 149 tons/year of tilapia, as well as the Luanga river falls in Uíge municipality.
On Tuesday, the Kenyan ambassador will meet with the business community of Uíge province.

With more than one million inhabitants, the province of Uíge has 16 municipalities, namely Ambuíla, Bembe, Buengas, Bungo, Damba, Alto Cauale, Maquela do Zombo, Milunga, Mucaba, Negage, Puri, Quimbele, Quitexe, Sanza Pombo, Songo and Uíge.
Agriculture and commerce are the main sectors in Uíge, which was once considered Angola's power house.
Uíge's warm climate facilitates growing coffee, tropical fruit, cassava, palm oil, peanuts, sweet potatoes, beans, cocoa, sisal and other crops. NM/JAR/TED/AMP
