Curoca - The minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, stressed on Thursday that the sector's projects being carried out on the bank of the Cunene river, in the municipality of Curoca, Cunene Province, will guarantee sustainability for families in the region.
Speaking to the press at the end of a visit to the aforementioned projects, João Batista Borges highlighted the rehabilitation of 9 dams, the water capture, treatment and distribution system and the borehole field underway in the municipality.
According to the minister, the collection system has a water substation from the Cunene river and includes, in the first phase, 501 household connections, 15 fountains and 3 livestock drinking fountains, in the commune of Chitado.
In his opinion, the 7 dams already completed demonstrate the impact of the projects, which are already making water available to points where the population has concentrated livestock.
“We believe that with this solution the water issues will be resolved and will create economic sustainability through agriculture and livestock in this region, which is heavily affected by drought,” he stated.
He referred to it as an assertive measure by the Executive, in order to prevent the migration of the population to other areas in search of this liquid and better pasture conditions, due to the drought in Curoca.
The government official praised the progress of the projects, as most of them are due in 2025.
During two days in the province, the minister learned about the works on the Cova do Leão dam, the treatment system and the water pipeline in the municipality of Cahama, in addition to the Curoca infrastructure mentioned above.
