Dundo - SOMILUANA mine produced 99,997 carats of diamonds, out of the 103,000 initially expected in the 1st half of this year, representing 11% below what was foreseen.
The information was provided on Wednesday, in Dundo, by the head of the geology department of the Mining Society, Juliana Chimpolo, during the semi-annual review workshop on diamond production, highlighting that the targets were not achieved due to several issues.
To reverse the situation, the company is working to reduce ore movement distances, building pre-treatment plants close to the blocks.
She added that the company will invest in training technicians, boost strategic exploration areas and geological studies in mining to search for new reserves.
Regarding environmental preservation, she said that the company has been replacing soil and a reforestation program is scheduled.
She reiterated the company's commitment to continue supporting communities and helping the Government to expand the school and health network in rural areas.
Juliana Chimpolo revealed that the construction of a school and a medical center in the surrounding communities is underway.
With a concession area of 448 square kilometers, SOMILUANA Mining Society employs around 787 people, of which 53 are women.
Located in the municipality of Lucapa, province of Lunda-Norte, it operates in a secondary deposit (alluvium) in which it holds a 33% stake, with the other 67% held by ENDIAMA. E.P/HD/CF/DOJ
