Agricultural production reaches more than 26.9 million tons 2023/24 campaign

Luanda – Angola produced 26.989.727 tons of several products during the 2023/24 agricultural campaign, which represented a 4.6% growth compared to the previous harvest (2022/2023).

According to preliminary data presented, Wednesday (August 21), by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, during the meeting of the Council of the Republic, the majority of this production fell on the roots and tubers (potatoes) sweet, cassava, potato and yam), which reached 14.506.348 tons, an increase of 5.5%.

The data is contained in a document called “Food Security in Angola and National Production”, which presents the provisional results of the evolution of the 2023/2024 agricultural campaign.

According to this document, fruit production was 6.776.418 tons, 4.4% more than the same period last year, while cereal cultivation stood at 3.470.345 (3.4%), with emphasis on corn (3,315,304 tons) and rice (50k).

In the list of five categories, the production of vegetables was 2.236.616 tons (1.5%), while legumes and oilseeds were recorded at 649.354 tons (0.7%).

During this period, there was a harvest of 11.921.277 tons of cassava, 781.102 of tomatoes and 581.306 of onions.

For the 2024/2025 agricultural year, the sector forecasts the production of 29.218.630 tons of these goods, with prospects of obtaining an increase of 8.3% compared to the previous season. QCB /CF/DOJ
