Luanda – The Angolan government expects to yield at least 1.5 billion kwanzas by July 2025 from contracts aimed at the sale of roughly 109 state assets, through the privatisation programme that has the acronym PROPRIV, ongoing since 2019.
The fact was announced this Friday, in Luanda, by the secretary of State for Finance and Treasury, Ottoniel dos Santos,, in the end of the meting of the PROPRIV National Interministerial Commission, chaired by the Minister of State for Economic Co-ordination, José de Lima Massano.
Speaking to the press, the government official underscored that out of the 109 state assets, 6 were privatised this year.
Ottoniel dos Santos disclosed also expects to close the year 2024 with a totl of fourteen privatisations. Among those expected to be privatised this year are included the Securities Exchange (BODIVA), ENSA insurance company, Standard Bank and the telecom firm UNITEL.
Approved in 2019, through the Presidential Decree number 250/19 of August 5th, the Angolan Government’s Privatisation Programme (PROPRIV) was designed to reduce state intervention in the economy and boost the emergence of private enterprises, stimulate commercial competition and the efficiency of the country’s economy.
Initial conceived for the 2029/2022 period, PROPRIV has been re-adjusted to end in the year 2027, through the Presidential Decree number 78/23 of March 28th.
