Luanda - The President of the Republic of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina, on Thursday noted the potential of the Luanda Refinery, as part of his visit to the country to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The statesman, who did not make statements to the press, received information regarding the oil sector, in general, as well as about the latest refinery improvement project, which increased the production capacity of gasoline, butane gas and gray hydrogen.
On the occasion, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said that Angola share its experience with Madagascar in this field, in terms of training and other structures such as logistics bases and laboratories.
He noted that on Thursday morning two memorandum of understanding were signed between Angola and Madagascar in the oil and mining sectors, so the visit served to give President Andry Rajoelina an overview of what the country has in terms of infrastructure in this sector.
According to Diamantino Azevedo, the Malagasy statesman was impressed by the project and its functionalities.
The Angolan Head of State also presented the refining strategies to increase production at national level and allow for greater exports, with emphasis on the construction projects for the Cabinda refineries, which are scheduled to be inaugurated in mid-2025, the refineries in the provinces of Zaire and Benguela.
Another refining and petrochemical component to which reference was made is linked to the production of fertilizer such as ammonium and urea.
The Luanda Refinery, a unit that transforms crude oil into derivatives, has a production capacity of 65,000 barrels of oil per day.
Relations between Angola and Madagascar are considered excellent, with regular consultations at presidential, ministerial and technical levels, and both countries have built a framework that allows for further deepening relations in the various areas with mutual support both at regional and continental levels.
