Luanda – Over 20 million kwanzas is the total amount that will be distributed to the seven categories that made up the Catoca journalism award, announced Wednesday, in Luanda, by the board of directors of the mining company.

Of the total amount, 5 million kwanzas will be for the “Grand Prize for Journalism” category, three million for “Eastern Journalist Award”, and the categories “Reporting”, “Interview”, “National Language Journalism”, “Image Award” and “Best Speaker”, each will receive 2.5 million kwanzas.

According to the president of the jury, Teixeira Cândido, the applications to compete in the respective categories may be submitted, in digital format and sealed envelope, from Wednesday (March 15) until April 10, 2023, at the headquarters of the Catoca Mining Society, in Luanda, or sent to the email: premiodejornalismo@catoca.com.

For this purpose, the secretary general of the Union of Angolan Journalists (SJA) said that the potential competitors should present journalistic works published in the most varied media organs, namely news agencies, newspapers, magazines, radio, television, among other large circulation media.

The official, who was speaking during the launch of the first edition of the Catoca journalism prize, said that all types of journalistic content, such as economic, political, sports, social, cultural and others, can compete for the prize.

According to Teixeira Cândido, the award regulation “does not include contents published in social networks, such as facebook”.

At the time, he explained that the works of journalists from news agencies, when published/retweeted by other media outlets, will only be considered valid if the source and author are mentioned.

On his turn, the Human Resources Director of Catoca Mining Company, José Ngoia, noted that the implementation of this award is part of the social responsibility of the mining company, in order to encourage the work of journalists.

According to the leader, the award also aims to awaken the creative and innovative sense of Angolan journalists, fulfilling the real mission of taking quality information to the public.

The Catoca Annual and National Journalism Award is open to all Angolan journalists, whether they live in Angola or not, who publish their works in the national media.
