Luena - At least 100, 000 economic operators have been formalised to benefit from micro-credit.
This was said Monday by Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Augusto Caetano João, stating that the initiative is part of Informal Economy Reconversion Programme (PREI).
He said that so far the programme benefit the economic operators in the provinces of Luanda, Huambo, Huíla, Cunene, Malanje, Bié and Moxico.
He assured that it will soon cover the eastern provinces of Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul.
Under the PREI, businesses of economic agents will receive micro credits ranging from AKz 50,000 to AKz 7 million, in addition to access to the Social Security system and training.
The minister, who is on two-day visit to Moxico province, said that the objective is to contribute to economic and social growth, boost the promotion of decent work and reduce poverty in the communities.
He will discuss the progress of the projects of the 18 cooperatives financed by the Production Support Programme, Export Diversification and Import Substitution (PRODESI), for other possible financing.
On the other hand, the minister announced plans for the sending of 500 vans to Luena for the winners of the contest to help transport products from the countryside to the city, aimed at promoting rural commerce.
The PREI is an initiative of the Government of Angola, carried out by a multi-sector commission coordinated by the Ministry of Economy and Planning, with budget support from the European Union (EU) and technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) .
