Wholesale prices vary by 1.24% from March to April 2023

The Wholesale Price Index (IPG) recorded a monthly variation, in the period from March to April 2023, of 1.24%, higher than that recorded in the previous period (0.22%), lower than that recorded in the same period of the previous year.

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the year-on-year change in April stood at 14.93%, registering a decrease of 15.14 percentage points, compared to the same period of the previous year.

 

The trend of the year-on-year change, in the last 3 years until the month of March, is increasing, reversing its direction, from April 2022.

 

The INE says that during the month of April 2023 the prices of domestic products increased by 1.94%, compared to those of the month of February, with Section D – Manufacturing Industries registering the largest price increase, with 1.95%.

 

According to the report available on the institution's website, the products that had the highest price variation in this group were dried meat with 3.87%, frozen mackerel with 3.32%, insecticide with 3.10%, beef with 2.91%, offal with 2.72%, beer with 2.65%, bar soap with 2.56%, cement with 2.42%, gaseous with 2.18%.

 

The list also includes the wine with 2.14%, frozen red snapper with 1.98%, aluminum door with 1.92%, wooden window with 1.83%, plastic paint with 1.76%, plastic chair with 1.75%, bleach with 1.70%, wooden door, detergent powder and bed linen, with 1.63% each.

 

The data says that during the month of April 2023, the prices of imported products had an increase of 1.00%, compared to the previous month, influenced by the price variation verified in Section A - Agriculture, Animal Production, Hunting and Forestry, with 1.24%.

 

The products that most increased in prices were onion with 2.59%, garlic with 2.31%, brown beans with 2.20%, carrots with 2.10%, orange with 2.05%, tomato with 1.81%, chickpeas with 1.67%, potato with 1.57%, cabbage with 1.21%, lemon with 1.14%, peanut with 1.00%, apple with 0.55% and corn-grain with 0.38%, among the main ones.
