President approves financial agreement for acquisition of 500 buses

Luanda - Angolan president João Lourenço approved an individual financing agreement of USD 116.1 million to support a contract for the supply of 500 buses, equipment and technical assistance services, for the implementation of the school mobility programme, Angop has learnt.

This is according to the Presidential Dispatch No. 253/22, of November 14, published in the country’s Gazette and based on the legal instrument that approves the regulation for the issuance and management of the direct and indirect public debt.

The aforementioned financing agreement will be signed between the Ministry of Finance (on behalf of the Angolan State), with the Austrian institution Gotrans Gmbh and its agent HFFT.

The Executive, according to the document, justified the acquisition of 500 buses, pointing out the need to improve urban transportation, school mobility, as well as passenger assistance services to guarantee a better quality of life for citizens.

The acquisition of buses, equipment and services with the necessary infrastructure is considered urgent, according to the Presidential Dispatch.

As an example, the Angolan capital - Luanda, has around 450 working buses, for an estimated population of 9,079,000 inhabitants, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

These buses cover most of the lines throughout the territory of the province, with a daily demand of more than 500,000 passengers transported by nine concession companies.
