Lobito - The Commercial Port of Lobito (Benguela) received the certification of the Integrated Management System (IMS) of ISO standards Thursday, which proves compliance with the criteria of quality, environment, safety and health at work.
Delivered through the Nigerian company MS Certification Services, this certification covers international standards ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.
ISO9001 is an international standard focused on the quality of products or services that, in general, helps a company to put in place practices to achieve this goal.
ISO 14001 refers to sustainable practices in the promotion of the environment and ISO 45001 has to do with the safety and well-being of workers.
According to the director of the Nigerian company MS Certification Services, Nhen Jonath, in a nutshell, the Port of Lobito has met all the requirements required to deserve such certification.
'We welcome you and as of today you are globally certified as members of the Global Village', said the director enthusiastically.
When taking the floor, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Lobito, Celso Rosas, highlighted the integrated management system, stating that it is a set of rules that have to do with the culture of continuous improvement and that rewards the entire organization of the Port of Lobito.
'We are committed to maintaining and enhancing this system, ensuring that our organization continues to grow in a sustainable, safe and quality-driven manner,' he said.
In his opinion, for a better contribution to the Gross Product, it is essential that there is an increase in productivity, but, for this, it is necessary to improve the internal organization of public companies.
He thanked the Angolan company 'Soalemag' for training the workers of the Port in relation to quality, with a view to raising the company's recognition to international levels.
The Port of Lobito began to be built in 1903, in a bay of calm waters, has the Restinga as a natural breakwater and completed on March 24, 2024, 96 years of existence.
The multipurpose terminals (general and containerized cargo), the ore carrier and the Dry Port are the infrastructures that show the potential of that port company at the level of the region and the world in general, according to experts.
It has a berth of 1,199 meters, with a general cargo capacity of 600 thousand tons and 250 thousand TEU/year for containerized cargo.
The mining terminal has a 310-meter quay and capacity to receive ships of 50 thousand DWT (Gross Tonnage).
The Dry Port, on the other hand, has an area of 90 thousand square meters. It is a terrestrial intermodal terminal, directly connected to the road and railway to Porto and connected to the Benguela Railway (CFB). TC/CRB/DOJ
