Luanda - Port of Luanda has made available a total of 800 million kwanzas to support the implementation this year of the “Ekanda” social responsibility and sustainability project, the institution's executive director João Fernandes announced Monday.

Speaking at the launch of the program “Social Responsibility and Sustainability of the Port of Luanda - A Vision of the Future and for the Future”, Fernandes said candidates must submit their social and sustainable projects by July 17, which will be funded during the 2024 financial year.

He added that one of the objectives is to raise awareness and involve citizens in social programs and actions such as education and health, with a view to contributing to the well-being of the population and the environment.

Those interested should submit their projects through the “Projovem” initiative program, on the website www.portoluanda.co.ao/programa-projovem.

The Secretary of State for Civil Aviation, Maritime and Ports, Rui Carreira on his turn stressed that the Port of Luanda is responsible for 80% of the country's imports and exports, a fact that raises the institution's responsibility to the concerns and challenges of the millennium.

Carreira called for greater professionalism on the part of the 402 workers who operate 3,900 ships a year, and for the use and appropriate actions that contribute to the conservation and sustainable maintenance of the environment.

The word Ekanda comes from the national language Kimbundu and in Portuguese means nation.

The “Projovem” program aims to increase the schooling of young people aged between 18 and 29 who can read and write and have not completed elementary school.

It aims to complete this stage through the modality of youth and adult education, integrated with professional qualification and the development of community actions. OPF/VC/TED/AMP
