Mbanza-Kongo – The National Police (PN) in the border municipality of Nóqui, northern Province of Zaire, have thwarted the illegal departure of 8,520 liters and fuel to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), due to alleged smuggling, in the early hours of Monday.
The seizure of the product, which was being transported by two artisanal vessels, occurred in one of the channels of the Lukango River, in the Poder Popular neighborhood, on the outskirts of the village of Nóqui.
The spokesperson for the Zaire provincial command of the national police, Lieutenant Luís Bernardo, said to ANGOP that 284 containers (drums) loaded with diesel and gasoline were found on board.
During the operation, which included the involvement of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), 8 citizens, suspected smugglers, were arrested, as well as AOA 1.2 million (US$ 1.3k) was seized.
The detainees were sent to the Service of Criminal Investigation (SIC) in the municipality of Nóqui, for processing.
The border municipality of Nóqui is 145 km from the city of Mbanza-Kongo, province capital of Zaire.
