Luanda – Sea Matters ministers of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) will hold their fifth meeting in the Angolan capital, from 24 to 26 May, to analyse pertinent issues such as the combat to illegal fishing.

Besides Angola, host country, the event is to be attended by representatives from Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé & Príncipe, East-Timor, Portugal and Brazil.

The gathering will also serve for Cabo Verde to pass over the chair of the organisation’s Sea Matters Ministers Forum to Angola, which also happens to be presiding the CPLP for the 2021-2023 period.

To happen under the motto “Mobilising partnerships and investments for the sustainable development of the CPLP member states seas; Challenges and Opportunities”, the meeting’s agenda includes the analysis of a proposal to create the Co-operation Platform for the Promotion of Sustainable Fishing.

ANGOP has learnt that the event will equally be used as an opportunity for the sharing of information and exchange of experiences, with focus on the contribution of oceans to the sustainable development of the CPLP countries.

For three days, the CPLP Fisheries matters representatives are also to reflect on the “Promotion and strengthening of sustainable  economies based on the Ocean”, “The management, protection, conservation and restoration of marine ecosystems in the CPLP”.
